Utility Check Research Team

The Utility Check product research team — tests devices and tools that affect your electricity bill.

About

Our product research desk tests and reviews the hardware that actually moves the needle on a residential electricity bill: smart thermostats, home energy monitors, EV chargers, and connected efficiency products. Reviews focus on the question every reader is really asking — "will this pay back, and how fast?" — using real-world usage data, not manufacturer marketing.

We are participants in affiliate programs (Amazon Associates and select retail partners) and we clearly disclose this on every post that contains affiliate links. Affiliate status does not change which products we recommend; we routinely list non-affiliate products in our top picks when they're the best fit. Our north star: a reader should be able to tell exactly *why* we ranked something where we did, in numbers.

Areas of expertise

  • Smart thermostat performance and savings analysis
  • Home energy monitor accuracy and feature evaluation
  • Hardware payback calculations from real usage data
