TECO Energy Time-of-Use Rates

Understanding TECO Energy time-of-use (TOU) rate plans. Learn when peak and off-peak hours are and how to save with TOU pricing.

How TOU Rates Work

Time-of-use rates charge different prices for electricity depending on when you use it. Peak hours (typically 2-8 PM on weekdays) cost more, while off-peak hours (nights, weekends, holidays) cost less. This pricing reflects the actual cost of generating electricity during high-demand periods.

Is TOU Right for You?

TOU rates work best if you can shift at least 50% of your electricity use to off-peak hours. This is easier if you work from home, have flexible schedules, or can automate appliances with timers. EV owners often benefit significantly from overnight charging at off-peak rates.

Maximizing TOU Savings

Pre-cool or pre-heat your home before peak hours begin. Use timers on dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers to run during off-peak hours. Charge EVs overnight. If you have a pool, run the pump during off-peak hours. Some customers save 20-30% by optimizing their usage patterns.
