Dominion Energy Power Outage Map & Restoration Tracker

Live Dominion Energy outage map, how to report an outage, average restoration times, and what to do during a power outage. Updated 2026.

Live Dominion Energy Outage Map

Dominion Energy maintains a real-time outage map on its website that shows the number of customers affected, estimated restoration times, and the cause of each outage when known. Bookmark the official outage page during storm season — most utilities update the map every 5–15 minutes. Storm-driven outages typically peak within 6 hours of the event and are restored to 90%+ of customers within 24–72 hours depending on severity.

Reporting a Power Outage to Dominion Energy

If your power is out, first check your circuit breakers and call a neighbor to confirm it's not just your home. Then report the outage three ways: text "OUT" to Dominion Energy's SMS line (fastest), use the mobile app, or call the 24/7 outage hotline. Have your account number or service address ready. Reporting matters — utilities use customer reports to dispatch crews to outages they can't yet see remotely.

Average Restoration Times

Routine outages (single transformer, downed line on one street) are typically restored within 1–4 hours. Storm events lasting under 6 hours: 90% restored within 24 hours. Major hurricane / ice storm events: 48–96 hours for the bulk of customers, up to 7 days for the hardest-hit neighborhoods. Dominion Energy prioritizes hospitals, water plants, 911, and main feeder lines first — so single-customer outages on dead-end taps are often last to be restored.

What To Do During an Outage

Unplug sensitive electronics to protect them from voltage spikes when power returns. Keep refrigerators and freezers closed — a full freezer holds temperature for 48 hours unopened. Never run a portable generator inside a garage or near windows (CO poisoning kills more people than the storm itself). If you use medical equipment, register with Dominion Energy's critical care program for priority restoration. In extreme heat or cold, go to a designated cooling/warming center.

Storm Preparedness Checklist

Before storm season: trim trees near power lines on your property, charge battery banks, fill prescriptions, and back up important documents to the cloud. Keep a 72-hour kit with flashlights, batteries, a battery or hand-crank radio, bottled water (1 gal per person per day), non-perishable food, a manual can opener, and cash. If you depend on a well pump, sump pump, or medical device, plan for a backup power source — even a 1500W inverter generator can run essentials.
